The goal for this project was to observe something and recreate it using any medium of your choice, demonstrating your view of a subject. My favorite medium is photography, so I decided to observe the different smiles that people wear every day. I took 80 individual pictures of smiles, volunteers from the AHS marching band and made them into one big rectangle. I used gel medium to transfer the photos onto a canvas and later used warm water and a sponge to scrub the paper off (which took a long time). My result was 80 different and unique 1.75" x 2" photos of smiles on my canvas. I had never used this technique before, so you could say I took a risk. I had also thought of another idea to take all the photos and make them into one big smile, but unfortunately I wasn't able to change the shade/color of the pictures; however, I think my project turned out well.
To observe how people interact with an object, I placed a bowl of candy out in the middle of a common area. Many of whom walked past the bowl looked at it at least once, some did a double take to read the note written on a card saying "Take one! Have a sweet day!" Everyone seemed suspicious to grab an innocent piece of candy because they didn't know where it came from or why it was out for anyone to take. After two long hours of observing, a group of kids finally grabbed their share.
